Natural Play Space Volunteer Kickoff

We broke ground on the Natural Play Space in May and are ready to build and grow it with our church community this summer! If you are unfamiliar with this project, it will transform the south side of our church grounds outside the Religious Education wing into a natural play space where children of all abilities engage in noncompetitive, cooperative, and imaginary play; where youth relax and visit outside with their friends; and where parents can visit or get to know each other while their kids play.

Last month, our accessible pathways were constructed by a Lansing-area company using crushed, recycled concrete. This is more sturdy, accessible, and longer-lasting than wood chips. Now we're ready to create the play elements that these paths lead to. We welcome you to help a lot or a little — from joining a design/build team like the pergola, water element, hoop tunnel, or log walk to participating in a grassland planting day — all are welcome!

Ready to learn more and maybe get your hands dirty? Please come to our volunteer kickoff. We will meet outside on the Natural Play Space site with camp chairs and morning snacks. Some of us may stay longer to plant, weather and site permitting. Come play with UUs!
